Surprising Friendship Story

Everybody needs friends, and good friends can be found in surprising ways. Vercingetorix solved his problem of being bullied by Roman soldiers with the help of an unexpected friend. And by sharing his recipe for Dragon Treat, Farinor made an unlikely friend of the marauding dragon who had singed the king. For this month’s contest, Cricket’s gang of buggie friends wants to read your best story about a surprising or unlikely friendship.

How will your unlikely friends meet? Will they discover that they share an unusual interest or hobby? Do they help each other with a problem or to get over a bad mood? Maybe they solve a mystery together or go on a scary adventure, like exploring an old haunted house. Will you write about friends who are opposites, who maybe compete at everything and often argue? Or will you write about making friends with someone you didn’t expect to like at all?

Whether your surprising friend is the new kid at school, or even an animal or a mythical creature, all our friendly buggies will be joining hands (if they have them) around the Cricket Country mailbox, singing “Kumbaya” as they wait to enjoy your best story—of 350 words or less, please—about a surprising or unlikely friend.
