Contests
Wild Animal Poetry
There are no hippopotamuses or dangerous crocodiles in Cricket Country (just an Ugly Bird), but this issue of Cricket got everybuggy thinking about how cool and awesome wild animals are. Some are scary, others are cute, but each one is amazing in its own way. For this month’s contest, everybuggy wants to read your best poem about one of nature’s wild animals.
Will you write about a lonely hunter or an animal that’s happiest in a herd? One that’s fast and powerful, or small and gentle? Furry, scaly, slimy, prickly? An animal that soars in the sky, swims the sea, or roams the plains of Africa? What remarkable feature of the animal will your poem capture? Its superb senses, its speed, its instinct to hunt or migrate great distances? Perhaps you will write about a tame domestic animal that exhibits a surprisingly wild behavior.
Whatever you choose, everybuggy will be stalking the Cricket Country mailbox waiting for your best poem—24 lines or less, please—about a wild animal to come bounding out. Roar!
