Poetry Contest: Poem in a Bottle

Submitted by: Nina S., age 10, Hastings on Hudson,

Adrift the Wide Sea

Snuggled in its bed
Thrown out to sea
Turning, churning in the icy, dark ocean
Off to a new place that contains wonder in every corner
Off to a sparkling, bright land
The king roars and trembles the earth
Its white fur blends in with its surroundings
The ocean performs a swaying dance
It rolls in and out, in and out
New days arrive and disappear
Beautiful sunsets say good night to earth
Finally, the glass bottle rolls onto the icy ground--the arctic
The snow is millions of precious jewels
Days pass, weeks pass
A fur-covered man bends down and gently grasps the bottle
Quietly, the lid is twisted open
Inside, the message says:
I don’t know who you are; I don’t know where you are
I just wanted to start your day with a nice hello
