The Secret Love

My name is Crystal, and I am nine years old. When I was little, I always believed in fairies. One day, I found out that my dad had a long business trip. I was devastated. My dad had never left without us. I felt the world inside me getting gloomier. My eyes filled with tears, and nothing could make me smile.

“I wish the fairies would help me! I wish they would make my dad come back,” I cried to my mom.

The next morning I started receiving little cheer-up gifts under my pillow or on my nightstand. One day it was a beautiful flower, another day, candy. I was happy. I wrote my secret friends a letter, and they wrote me back with words of sweet comfort. One morning I even got a letter saying that I was the best girl the world had ever seen.

Their uplifting tokens of love continued until my dad came back home. Then the letters from the fairies stopped abruptly Accidentally, I overheard my mother saying to my father that she had played the role of the “fairy” during his absence.

I became angry and little disappointed. Then I realized that all she wanted to do was give me her love and comfort. I learned that my mother is the best friend for me. No one can ever love me as much as she does! My mom is the person who brought me into this world, who always cuddles me, and who cheers me up. Thank you for your love, Mommy!
