The Big Competition

I was excited and nervous at the same time. I didn’t want anyone to know that I was worried about the gymnastic bars competition and I think I did a pretty good job because for the whole drive over, my mom, dad, or my sister didn’t say any words of encouragement or any thing.

I wasn’t so sure that I believed in myself, but I put a brave face on so that my family didn’t think I was worried.

When we drove up to the arena, we went inside and got a seat on the bleachers. Finally the main judge called out, “Kaylee Thompson?”

I almost leaped two feet off the bleachers with my family whispering, “Come on, Kaylee!” “You can do it, Kaylee!” and “You go, girl!”

I had picked out one of my favorite songs for my routine on the bars,  “Who Let the Dogs Out?” When the music started, I flew up onto the bar, and it felt like I was one with the music, flying, and everything else seemed to just dissolve into nothingness.

I couldn’t believe when the song was about five seconds from being done. I flew off the bar, twirling and spiraling twice, and then I hit the ground and did a pose to show that I was done with my routine.

Everyone in the crowd cheered. The judge called everyone in the competition up, and then he called out, “First place, Kaylee Thompson!” I stood frozen in place until my coach ran over to me with the trophy.

As soon as I got out of the arena, my family gave me hugs and kisses, and I think they were about ready to burst with pride. So was I. I realized that you should believe in yourself, or you won’t get the chance to do anything that you want to do.

Miracles can happen, but you have to believe in yourself to make more big dreams and miracles happen.
