 Trip to Space

One night I dreamed that I was an astronaut. I was launching into space, and the launch was being broadcast on live TV. “. . . 3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . . Blast off!” the loudspeaker boomed. The aircraft was in action, flying through the air at the speed of sound. I turned on my radio, listening to the people on Earth clapping and yelling with joy. I watched out the window as the world drifted father and farther away from me.

The back of the spacecraft fell off, and I was gracefully floating toward space. Then the engine kicked in. The pilot drove the rocket toward the moon and landed it safely on the rocky surface. I zipped up in my spacesuit and stepped out into the weightless galaxy. I waved at Earth, imagining everyone waving back at me, saying “Hello, Sophia.” For a little while I missed watching clouds drift through the sky, but now I could see the stars and planets clearly, not from my small window. Then I remembered I was on the moon, and nothing could be better than that.

“Sophia . . . SOPHIA!” my helmet radio screeched. I was sleeping while floating through space! I looked around me and noticed the moon was miles away. I was drifting toward the sun. My face was getting hot and sweaty, and it was getting harder and harder to take  breaths. I bit my tongue and flailed my arms around, trying to push myself back to the moon, but nothing helped. All I did was drift farther and farther away, and closer and closer to the sun.

I screamed and tried to speak through my radio, but nothing would come out of my mouth. My mouth was too dry to speak. I turned my head and saw that the sun was closer than ever. Then I heard my radio say, “Are you there, Sophia? Do you read me?”

“Yes, HELP ME!” I screamed.

“Is anyone there?” the captain said.

“Yes, I’m here captain,” I screamed loudly.

“We are coming to get you,” the radio said.

That is when I woke up and my dream ended.
