The Dream that Turns My Life Around

One day after my team lost a soccer game to a much stronger team, I came home upset. I had known we were going to lose, because that team had very strong players and a great coach. I did not feel like eating dinner, so I just plopped down on my bed.

Suddenly, my favorite soccer player, Lionel Messi, was sitting on the end of my bed looking unhappy, so I asked him what had happened.

“I get upset when I see people give up on the goals that they are trying to achieve,” he said. I knew right away he was talking about me. I felt ashamed.

“But what could I do when feeling so hopeless? That other team has stronger players, a famous coach, and they have the best goalie in the city. On the other hand, my team is young. We do not know our coach that well, and our goalie just started to play soccer,” I told Messi.

He got even more upset with my story. He said that if he and other famous players would think like me, they would never become the best players in soccer. They would just give up and do nothing to achieve their goals. “A good player should never give up,” he continued. “Focus on what you are doing wrong and correct and perfect it with endless practice.

This seemed to me like a very long road to success, but as I looked at Messi again, I realized that he was right. Like all other people who had achieved something in life, he had put in endless hours and tremendous effort to get there.

Suddenly, my eyes flew open, and Messi was gone. I decided to go with Messi’s advice. By applying it, I will achieve my goals and dreams.
