Just a Dream

One tiring day after school, I did my homework, ate dinner, brushed my teeth, got my pajamas on, and finally went to bed. That was a normal evening for me. But the dream I had that night was strange, beyond unusual.

That day at school, we were learning about decimals in math class, reading a book about a monster in reading class, and climbing the rope in gym class. In my dream, those things were all jumbled up.

When I fell asleep, I immediately started dreaming. I was in a town, and nobody seemed to see me. Everyone looked tired and run down. They were all going to the same place--the tallest, biggest, and most beautiful building there. So I followed them in, but it took a very long time because the people were going very slowly.

When I finally got into the building, I saw something odd. It was full of big, hairy, slimy, green monsters. I remembered what they looked like from my book. The book also said to stay calm if you ever happen to see one. So I stayed calm. When one stopped in front of me, I saw that the hairs on its body weren’t really hairs at all. They were dots--decimals. But they didn’t have numbers with them. Maybe they weren’t decimals after all.

After following the people some more, I came to a stop at a big rope. I loved to climb ropes, and it looked like a challenge, so I started my way up. It was very long and it felt like I was climbing a mountain.

When I was about halfway up, I learned something new. The monsters can fly! I didn’t understand; this wasn’t in my book! One flew halfway up the rope, right where I was, and grabbed me! It was pulling me down the rope, and I was getting rope burn.

Then I suddenly woke up with red hands. Could my dream have been real? I thought that had really happened until I remembered it was winter. My hands always get red in the winter.
