The Christmas Extravaganza

On December 24, my family accepts the ultimate provocation,
To make this year’s Christmas the “Extreme Celebration.”
A tree in the living room, lights on the fence,
Let the Christmas Extravaganza of the Century commence.

The house is glowing with hundreds of lights,
Blazing brightly, even on the darkest of nights.
Wrapping paper and ribbons are scattered everywhere,
The fragrance of ginger and balsam fill the air.

Christmas dinner is an all-day affair,
It is a task the entire family must share.
We season turkeys, bake pies, and mash potatoes until we’re sore,
And the dog eats anything that falls on the floor.

The whole family searches carefully for the perfect pine,
We select the best one in the universe, the Christmas tree divine.
After we drape it with tinsel, we take a break and sing a Christmas song,
I write up my wish list, so far it is eight feet long.

A fire crackles in the fireplace; the presents are placed under the tree,
The dinner looks marvelous, complete with a golden turkey.
The dog eyes the tinsel and tugs at his sparkly new toy.
Down tumbles the Christmas tree, our pride and our joy.

We gaze at the wreckage created by our naughty pet,
I say, “Good thing we hadn’t put on the ornaments yet!”
My family and I have a wonderful Christmas together,
Despite having no Christmas tree, I’ll remember this Christmas forever.
