Poetry Contest: Holiday Spirit

Submitted by: Caroline S., age 12, Marietta, GA

Gather around the Christmas Tree.
Open presents while filled with glee,
For Santa Claus visited in the night,
Squeezed down the chimney. (It must have been tight.)
He ate the cookies and drank the milk
And left presents, tied with ribbons of silk.
Go out in the snow, try on your new skates,
As we watch you go, making figure eights.
When you come in, nose red as a cherry,
We’ll eat pie, sing songs, and be merry.
Then, at day’s end, we’ll gather round the fire
And tell stories and drink cocoa until we all tire.
Then as the Man on the Moon turns on his starbeams,
You drift off to sleep having sweet dreams.
