Winter Day

The crunch of snow
beneath your feet.
Snow flurries fly by bare trees
while white snow covers evergreen needles.
Sled and skis come out in afternoon
while wind whispers “Winter is here.”
Grab your coats and gear.
’Round the lake we come to see
Old-fashioned ice skating on a frozen lake,
No thoughts of risks or fear.
But days are shortening and home is calling.
The fire burns in the fireplace
while sips of hot cocoa take the time away.
Fuzzy PJs are toasty inside.
Now in your bed, you look out the window . . .
But what fills the sky takes breath away,
stars and snowflakes dance in the night.
