Testing the Water

Glimmering blue waves crash into rocks,
Seagulls soar howling obnoxious squawks.
I stop to think what happens beneath
The aqua carpet and coral reef.
Would it be cold, dark, and wet?
Could I befriend a dolphin as a pet?
Under the sea, crustaceans rule,
Little mermaids swim off to school.
Lungs full of air, I poke my head through,
Ten seconds of flotsam, shipwreck, and blue.
Perhaps the sea is best left alone
By land dwellers who ponder the great unknown.
