Sonnet IV

All things must change and take a diff’rent form,
And what in former days was sure and strong
Shall change; to this your heart will never warm
And this new certainty feels sorely wrong.
And so you live, though life feels dull and long,
And your new life, with each bewitching art
Attempts to make you heed its siren song
And give you sweet contentment in your heart.
Yet you still mourn with anger life’s depart
From what was once so certain and so true,
And feel the bitter gall of loss a dart
That struck you unawares, so swift it flew.
And yet, one day, your heart, despite your tears,
Will see new beauty and despise old fears.
