Home from the Pool

My family biked to the pool today.
We spent a long time there--we love to play.

When we finally left in the afternoon,
We thought, “Oh, we’ll be home soon.”

As we rode, my brother thought of a book.
We stopped at the library to take a look.

When he found the book, we thought, “We’re so close,
We’ll be home in twenty minutes, at most.”

A few minutes later, we passed a shop.
My mom said, “Oh, we have to stop!”

She was in there a while--when she finally came out,
My sister said, “What was that about?”

She said, “There was something I had to buy.”
Then a friend came past and stopped to say hi.

At last coming home through the park, I fell over.
There was a nail in a patch of clover!

It pierced my tire--now it was flat.
Well, what were we going to do about that?

I walked my bike back from the park.
By that time, it was really quite dark.

After a while, we reached our street.
When we finally got home, we had to eat.

After dinner, we went to bed late.
But you know what? I think our ride home was just great!
