Poetry Contest: Anything You Like!

Submitted by: Tegan L., age 13, Forsyth, IL

I learn the lesson every time,
again and again,
but it never sticks,
the more you hope,
the more your dreams are crushed,
but it is the curse of hope
that it will never let go,
it will only get stronger,
and you won’t know
that you still have hope
until you fears come true
and your heart is squashed,
so I tell myself every time not to hope,
it never comes true,
it never happens,
but there is a tiny place
in my heart even now
that hopes that the next time I hope
it just might come true,
there is still a chance,
and that keeps me going,
because I know without hope
there would be no point.
