Story Contest: Dragon Tales

Frederick, a Dutch boy, wanted a pet dragon. His mom said that they would never find a dragon at Pet Supplies Plus (PSP). But she drove Fred anyway. Right in the front of PSP in a cage was a red dragon with a lump of black hair atop its head. He had eight blue eyes and was very small. He hardly ever breathed fire. Fred promised that he would take care of the dragon and be responsible.

They took the dragon home and discovered that it talked and was very smart. The dragon helped Fred with his homework. Every day after school Fred went home, and the dragon helped him with his algebra.

Fred named the dragon Shitashimiyasui, which means “friendly” in Japanese. But this dragon was a troublemaker, a small outlaw in disguise.

When Fred came home from school one day, he saw shattered glass on the floor and saw his window was broken. He yelled, “MOM! Shitashimiyasui escaped out the window!”

His mom dashed upstairs and yelled like crazy. “How in the world did Shitashimiyasui get out of here?! I know that the window was locked!”

That night Fred watched the news on TV. It said that a dragon had destroyed seven windmills. A red dragon with a lump of black hair atop its head. A dragon that had eight blue eyes and was very small. Shitashimiyasui!

Fred was very surprised that Shitashimiyasui was an outlaw. He told his mom, but she said, “Stop being crazy. Time to go to bed.”

The next morning Fred woke up to see Shitashimiyasui by his bedside, doing what he usually did.

Unexpectedly Fred heard the sirens of patrol cars outside. Five policemen ran inside the house and found Shitashimiyasui. They asked his mom what the dangerous criminal was doing here. The police stated that Shitashimiyasui had damaged the windmills.

Then Fred spoke. “I am his owner. I will pay for the damage.”

So Fred worked to pay for the damage. The police arrested the dragon. Fred never wanted another dragon.
