Death Itself

Nyar and I were so close, yet so far apart. Though he had gone from this world to a world far from this, I could still hear his voice speaking clearly in my head. “When you are frightened, if you don’t act immediately, it will make you seem weak. When you act fast, your strength will show.” And I needed that strength. So I decided to continue into the labyrinth of tunnels leading to the Cavern of Untold and the Demon’s Lair, where Nyar was killed. Otherwise, a whole future of innocent people would be in an era of fate, agony, and ruthless departure.

Thus I stepped from the moonlit footpath into the murky black tunnels of the Demon’s Lair to find the only real demon--a man named Death. As I toed carefully through the ancient bloodstains and bones on the maze’s floor, I persistently heard the sounds of unknown shadows lurking just out of the light. But I knew who I was looking for, and that was Death.

He was located in the Cavern of Untold, the center of the Labyrinth. I crept through the passageways, my bejeweled scepter out in front of me, as well as my crackling torch. I selected the left corridor in the path, and I entered the dark lair of Death. Death looked me in the face, not knowing I was armed. He unsheathed his sword, and I bit back a scream of terror. Then I heard Nyar’s last words to me. “When you are frightened, if you don’t act immediately, it will make you seem weak. When you act fast, your strength will show.” So I lashed out my scepter.

All at once I shouted the best jinxes for his defeat, and Death crumpled in a heap, moaning and obviously in pain. He croaked, “Please girl, with your magic you must take mercy on me.”

All I said was, “Nope, I guess that’s what you get for being an evil demon that kills just for the fun of it.” I strutted away, leaving him to face death itself.
