Reese panted inside the graveyard. Midnight struck. Horned owls were hooting in the night sky, and bats fluttered around looking for prey. An enigmatic figure appeared from behind the tombstones. Reese recognized Trix immediately, once a dear friend, and now an archenemy. Reese gulped. Trix walked menacingly toward Reese with green flames flaring around her. Reese cautiously stumbled back. Trix was going to use her dark magic to enslave the dead in the graveyard.

“Hello, Trix,” Reese stammered and kept a cautious distance away from her.

“Hi, Reese.” Trix rolled her eyes. “It’s dangerous. You shouldn’t be here.”

“But I’m here to stop you. Let these souls rest in peace.”

As purple statics crackled around her fingertips, Trix pointed at Reese and unleashed the shadow men.

Reese quickly dodged and ran while the shadow men chased after her.

Trix then conjured up slithering thorny vines to trap Reese.

“Let go of me!” Reese shouted as she tried pushing herself out.

Sharp thorns pierced and blooded Reese’s arm. The glistening blood turned the vines into smooth and silky weeping willow leaves. Trix stared at it, bewildered. Reese had magic in her blood.

Slowly, the vines turned to weeping willow leaves and fell away as Reese unraveled from their grips.

Trix felt herself weakening as her green flames wilted. With the last of her dwindling force, Trix summoned the shadow men to devour Reese. Reese closed her eyes, inhaled, and the shadow men consumed her.

“Yes!” Trix exclaimed victoriously as Reese faded into the darkness. Then, rays of white light pierced through with fragments of the shadow falling apart. The bright flashes grew hotter and struck at Trix like a bolt of fire.

Trix covered her eyes and fell down. When she recovered, her tattered cloak had turned into a dazzling white gown. Her power now would only conjure flowers and butterflies.

Reese’s selfless sacrifice had revealed Trix’s pure heart and freed her from the dark spirits. Reese’s forgiveness and courage inspired Trix to remain goodhearted and help others.
