The Gold Box

I stood panting. I did not know what to do, continue or go back. I decided to continue. As I ran down the cave, my heart went into my throat. There, in the middle of the path, was Soolha, my enemy, blocking the way, but as I looked closely, I saw he was asleep. I breathed a sign of relief as I jumped over him. He stirred in his sleep but did not wake.

I continued running. As I got near to the end of the cave, I heard loud stomping and roaring. As I came closer, I saw it was Awan, the big gray wolf, and behind him was the gold box that I had been looking for. I saw right away that he was not asleep, but I knew that he was blind.

As I snuck toward him, he heard me. I asked myself the same question again: “Should I continue on or turn back?” Again, I decided to continue.

I kept sneaking toward the box. As my hand went out to reach it, Awan growled. He shot his paw up but missed me by an inch. I took a deep breath and then put my hand out again. I got the box! I breathed a sigh of relief.

I ran past Awan and jumped over Soolha. I got to the opening of the cave and gulped down fresh air. I had completed my mission.

I looked in the box. There was a magical gold necklace. Each gold bead was shaped like a flower. Each flower had the power to heal all injuries or sicknesses. There was a note in the box. I read the note: “Whoever has found this box just has to put the necklace over their head and wish for someone’s healing.”

I put the note and necklace back into the box. Then I ran home.

I burst into my mother’s room and put the necklace on. It tingled as soon as it touched my skin. I wished for my mother’s healing. “It worked,” I whispered, “it worked!”
