A science team in Canada called the Antarctica Exploration Team (AET) had sent four explorers twelve months ago to survey damage to the glaciers. These explorers had never come back. The AET sent a group of three young rescue workers, Rocky, Johan, and Alberto, to find the explorers. It took them thirteen days to get to Antarctica. While flying to the exploration site, Johan noticed an airplane on the ground with the AET EXPLORATION logo on it. The plane's wings were battered and torn. The group decided to land and take a look.

Alberto jumped off the helicopter, and the rest followed him to the airplane. Inside, the group saw a person Alberto immediately recognized. "Juan, are you O.K.?" he asked. Juan was cold and badly injured.

Rocky asked him if he knew where the rest of the group members were. "They were taken by a Rianker," answered Juan.

"What is a Rianker?" Rocky asked.

"Riankers are vicious, humanlike, polar monsters over twelve feet tall, and their bodies are covered with polar bear-like white fur," Johan said. "They can stand on their hind legs and run faster than any known animal on the planet." Juan told the rescue group that he could track the Riankers.

The group covered Juan with blankets and transferred him to the helicopter. Juan directed them to a tundra three miles away from the crash site. They found a big Rianker camp. When the Riankers spotted the helicopter, they attacked it. The group tried to escape, but the Riankers shot down their helicopter, caught them, and put them with the rest of the prisoners: Brandon, Gary, and Byron.

The explorers were healthy and warm. "The Riankers thought our group had damaged the glaciers," explained Byron. Gary told his friends that the Riankers had not damaged the glaciers. They were friendly beasts who were protecting the glaciers. Brandon told the Riankers that they were doing the same and wanted to discover who was doing the damage. The team made peace with the Riankers and returned safely to Canada. The Riankers have protected the glaciers ever since.
