Clara Tries the Part

Clara loved to act. In fact she was auditioning for the school play right now. The play was three of Grimm’s fairy tales, like “Cinderella,” “Hansel and Gretel,” and “The Princess and the Frog.” She was trying out for Cinderella. If she got the part, she would get to wear a blue, fluffy dress and high heels. Maybe she would get to wear a wig, because her hair was that dull brown color.

Ms. Deedo, one of the drama teachers, called her name. Clara walked nervously to the door. “Good luck,” Ms. Deedo whispered.

“Thanks,” Clara whispered back. She walked into the room; she shivered, she was so nervous.

“Okay,” said Mr. Brown. (He was also one of the drama teachers.) “Let’s hear what you got.”

Clara started to say one of the lines from the script. Once she stopped, Mr. Brown said, “Good, good. You may go. The cast list will be posted outside my office tomorrow.”

Clara went out thinking about what part she got. What if I get the part of the ugly old witch? she thought. Well anywho, she just could not wait for tomorrow.

The next day Clara ran to Mr. Brown’s office. But, just as she thought, there was a crowd of kids from third grade to sixth grade.

Finally the crowd ceased, and she was able to see the list: Andrew, Alice, Bella, Clara! Clara’s name was right next to the words The Frog. What! This can’t be right. She checked to see who got the part of Cinderella. Emily Parkson. Man, Clara was totally bummed. She was so bummed, that in math she said 5 times 5 was 600,000,000.

That night she couldn’t sleep. What if kids laughed at her because she got the part of a frog? But in the end she told herself that everything was fine.

The next day was the first rehearsal. She met a whole bunch of people. Even Emily Parkson. Clara knew she was going to have fun in drama even though she had the part of a frog.
