The Night Shadow

Swiftly, silently, hardly a shadow to be seen,
Flying in the swift night breeze
She flies through the trees and weaves in between
The willow’s long and waving leaves.

Silhouetted against the dark night sky,
The owl’s mighty wings carry her far and wide
Flying swiftly, like a shadow in the sky
She brushes the long grass as she glides.

A shadow flying through the trees,
Silently and smoothly she slips out of sight;
Silently she alights and then takes flight.
Fast as lightning, quick as a flash,
She catches a mouse in her grasp.

Flying quietly she is hardly seen.
The meadow’s grass is rustled gently by the wind,
And the moon’s silvery glow brightly gleams.
The owl glides swiftly and quietly on the wind.
She carries her prize to the wooded glen.
Till tomorrow, we will not see her again.
