Lightning flashed and thunder rumbled as Faith curled up in her bed to read a good book. She could hear her mom washing dishes as the storm growled. Lightning flashed again as Faith looked out the window. In the brief flash of light she had seen a dark shape in the air.

While running down the stairs she hollered, “Mom, I think someone’s at the door!”

Her mom yelled back, “Honey, don’t yell in the house, but I’m coming!”

Faith’s mom looked out the front window. “Faith,” she said, “I don’t think anyone’s there.”

As soon as she said this, a knocking sound filled the house. Thump, thump, thump, it went.

Faith creaked open the door.

Outside, in the pouring rain stood a very strange stranger. It was in the form of a man, with dark brown, leathery skin. It had tan bat-like wings and drab clothes of beige and dark gray. To top it all off, the thing’s eyes were emerald green with unusually large pupils.

“Hello” said the thing. “I am Lord Draco Millenenus, member of The Society of Interplanet Cooperation.”

Faith was stunned. To think a thing like this could even talk, let along be a member of an unknown civilization!

“H-hello,” she stuttered.” What are you and where are you from?” As soon as she said this, Faith knew it was very impolite.

“I am an Aleinus Flightamus from the planet Lacus,” he answered with a flourish, as if he did not notice her impoliteness or he did just not care.

“Excuse me, sir,” said Faith’s mom, “do you need anything?”

“Yes,” said Lord Millenenus. “I was sent by The Society of Interplanet Cooperation to check if everything was fine here, because in the galaxy of Lustrum we have been having problems with hostile aliens.”

“Well,” answered my mom, “I haven’t notice anything.” Faith’s mom was obviously flabbergasted by this last remark.”

“Well then,” he said, “I must be off.”

He stepped out of our house, spread his wings, and shot off into the distance. Faith wondered if she would ever see him again.
