The Parents of the Nightingale
Down in a place called Misty Vales
a voice sang clear and sweet,
while in a forest not far away,
a Fey ran on swift feet.

The voice belonged to a beautiful woman
with a jeweled pin in her hair,
while the feet were those of a young Fey man
who searched the ground with care.

Something caught the young man’s eye,
and he whirled around and knelt
to pick up a gleaming star shard
that he slipped into a pouch on his belt.

Every woman in Misty Vales
envied the young woman’s song,
but they also envied her looks:
face tender, blond hair long.

The gleaming shard the fleet Fey found
was found near where the woman lived.
He saw her sing in the fields one day
And both hearts found love to give.

They ran away and lived happy days,
but woe, it was not for long.
The plague stole their lives, but left one behind:
the baby Cymbril to continue the song.
