Music Poetry Contest

Submitted by: Emmy U., age 12, Upper Nyack, NY

Colors swirl in circles around me
They create a symphony of their own
The sharp turquoise of the second violin
The soft, mellow yellow of the trombone

A saxophone lets out a wail
It creates a bold, silver streak
A pungent, purple cymbal crashes
The buzz is a fuchsia-hued faucet leak

The golden wave of a French horn
The lime green of a clarinet G
The thumping tan of a bass drum
Creates both music and art for me

Written from the point of view of a synesthete
