Grasshopper Orchestra

The summer season is one of bliss,
The Sun bestows on the Earth a kiss,
While throughout the day, in the midst of the haze,
Grasshoppers shelter themselves from the blaze.
They timidly hide behind a willow tree,
As by it hovers a bumblebee.
After a while the hours pass.
The grasshoppers settle into the grass,
However only when night appears as they can see,
The long-legged insects strike up a symphony,
Composing music from outside and within,
Their high-pitched chirps a violin,
While other grasshoppers begin to rub their legs and hum,
Their spindly legs a booming drum.
And while they can scarcely be seen at twilight,
Nature’s orchestra is heard by all through the night.
