Waves

As I stroll down the beach,
Waves lap at my ankles
Like playful dogs.
Ebbing and flowing,
As smooth as the breeze,
They crash against the shore.
The foam, a frothy milkshake,
Fizzles and pops
As it dampens the sand,
Taking shells and rocks with it.
The waves, nature’s finest cymbals,
Rush outward towards me.
And just when I think they
Will reach my toes
They pull back inward,
Returning to the vast, blue ocean.
