Ostrich Moms

Heads pop up, one by one
Ostrich moms cock their heads
Listening to a sound they dread

A rustling in the grass
The mothers gather around the chicks
And then a mom gives a brutal kick

An angry warty warthog
Crumples on the ground
It does not move, nor even make a sound

The intention of the warthog
Was to eat the little chicks
But now, the warthog sure has had its bucket kicked

The happy ostrich family
Is now at peace to graze
With all their fluffy chicks unphased

Sometimes killing the adversary
Is what it takes to be
As brave as an ostrich mommy
