In the Future

“We should have robots in the house!”

“No,” said Meggie, Abby’s mother, “you know how I dislike robots!”

“But they’re kind and helpful.”

Meggie thought they were ugly, useless, and most unpleasant, and she had had enough of robots. They were everywhere, at work, in the streets, and even in homes. Everybody was friends with robots, everybody except Meggie, of course.

One day, Meggie drove Abby to school and then went to work. It was all fine until suddenly Meggie tripped and fell on the stairs. Luckily a robot was there. She quickly caught and carried Meggie straight to Birchleaf Hospital. She sent a message to Abby’s school and also one to Mr. Casen, Meggie’s boss that Meggie was in the hospital.

When Abby received the message, she ran to the hospital as fast as she could. When she arrived, she saw Meggie’s boss and the robot sitting by the bed.

Suddenly Abby’s mom awoke. “What happened? Why am I in the hospital?”

“Mom, you’re in the hospital because you fell down the stairs at work!” exclaimed Abby.

“Oh, thank you, Mr. Casen, for bringing to the hospital,” said Meggie.

“Don’t thank me,” he replied. “Robot M3 brought you here.”

Days went by, and finally Meggie was able to go home, but she was not well enough to take care of Abby. When Mr. Casen saw this, he offered M3 to help Meggie.

At first Meggie refused but then thought that she should give it a try.

Every day the little robot would send Abby off to school and then take care of Meggie. Weeks went by, and Meggie grew stronger and better. At last it was time for the little robot to go. Meggie didn’t say anything, but Abby could see tears starting to form in her eyes.

When Mr. Casen came to pick up M3 and saw the tears, he decided to let Meggie keep M3. Meggie was so happy she couldn’t stop thanking Mr. Casen. In the end, Meggie knew what Abby had meant about robots being helpful and kind.
