Future World Story

“Good morning,” I said in an exhausted voice as I stretched my arms and yawned.

“Good morning, Isabel,” my automatic voice-responding robot happily announced. “Here is your list of daily reminders: get to the school airbot pickup by 8:05 a.m. and brush your teeth.”

The soft squishy bed automatically turned into a chair that hovered in the air like a spaceship. The chair took me to the kitchen to have breakfast, to the closet to put on my shoes and clothes, and then out to the airbot loading station.

I boarded the airbot quickly and told my destination to Ava, my schoolbot who drove my airbot and was my personal teacher. Once at the school, I went into classroom I, which was my very own.

As soon as Ava flew into the room, she said, “Your assignment for today is to write a speech about why we are so lucky to live in a world like this today. It is due tomorrow. You may begin.”

For the rest of the day, I dictated my speech to my VRWD, or Voice Responding Writing Device. By late afternoon I was three-quarters of the way done.

“I am ready to do my speech,” I whispered to Ava the next day.

“You may begin,” Ava said.

I took a deep breath and began my speech. Among other things, I spoke about how lucky we were to have our own private airbots, schoolbots, and even our own VRWD. I mentioned how grateful I was to have my parents and sister. Lastly I added, I am so lucky to have Ava, because she is not only my airbot driver, my personal teacher, but also my best friend.

It wasn’t until that moment that I realized how lucky I was and how grateful I should be. I mean in the old days, all they had were cell phones and laptops. Imagine that!
