Dolly

A vision in porcelain, satin, and lace
With candy-pink blush that coats each pale cheek.
There’s a seething evil behind that sweet face
That matches the autumn: Hopeless and bleak.

In a choreographed dance, I spin all around
In a dainty red dress with ivory-white smile.
Golden blonde curls bouncing abound,
Dancing sentient, there all the while.

I’m “a silly doll”? Just “a stupid dumb toy”?
It’s time to show you my other face, my dear.
I hop from the shelf, smile fresh out of joy--
Oh, how I love that fresh tingle of fear!

Tick-tock goes the clock, the hour is now.
It’s my time to shine on this Halloween night.
As old china doll, in costume I bow,
The stage has been set, it’s time for a fright.
