Kindness

I felt the wind on my face as I went down the hill. I beat my brother in a bike race again! “Yes!” I said teasingly. “I’m the best; you’re the worst!” I was having a good time.

I jolted up the hill for another race. I rode down the hill. Suddenly, my bike tire collided with a big rock. I went flying in the air. Thud! I crashed onto the ground.

Before I could move, I felt my bike crash down on my back. I struggled to my feet, but I fell back down. My brother offered me his hand and pulled me up. He left our bikes where they were and he put his arm around my neck and helped me walk back home. My legs were dripping blood, and my hands ached from the scrapes I got on them. I limped the whole way.

At home my dad examined my leg. It had big cuts and bruises. I was still crying in pain. I twinged as my dad washed the cuts and put bandages on them. As he worked he asked me what happened. I told him how I went flying in the air. After hearing all the details, he said I would be fine.

I got a computer and started watching YouTube. My brother brought our bikes home. He went to Luna Bakery to buy me a four-layer chocolate cake to cheer me up. I felt happy because he helped me and was kind to me when I was sad, and, even though I had teased him, he still returned kindness.

“Thank you, Kabir,” I said as I hugged him, feeling lucky to have such a nice big brother.
