The Cat’s Way

Eerie caterwauls pierce the night
When humans all have gone to bed
I know it cannot be a fight
Just by the way it hits my head

Perhaps I will go out and see
What those cats do yowl about
And though the darkness doesn’t scare me
I notice all the lights are out

Without a flashlight, without a torch
I swiftly pad on down the street
There are no lights on any porch
But here’s a place where dark and light meet

A ring of cats with tails all curled
All stare at me with glowing eyes
Surrounding the gate to their own world
Where humans don’t go, but cats rise

The portal stays throughout the night
And disappears when it is day
It glows brightly with an unreal light
The wonderful, legendary Cat’s Way.
