Monarch Butterflies

Moving up
Moving down
They amaze me
I look at their graceful wings
How do they fly so, so very far?
I’m squinting up
At the light blue sky
Watching
The black squiggly lines
On their bright orange bodies

Moving up
Moving down
I learned in school
They usually migrate
In the fall
So I guess
They’re on their way
To Mexico

Moving up
Moving down
I watch a couple
Take a short break,
Landing on a Marigold
Sucking up some nectar.
