Magic Spell Poetry Contest

I will always remember that dark day
When the terrible spell swept over the land
And everyone was turned to stone
Except me.
Why was I spared, I wonder?
My parents, my siblings, the family friends,
Everyone in my large family,
Everyone in the town,
Everyone in the world.
But not me.
Why not me?
I know my spells. I am a mage-in-training.
But I know nothing about why this happened.
Was it more than awful happenstance?
Is this magic, perhaps, evil?
I must set out on my own,
Look for other survivors of this . . . this petrification
And know what is going on,
And if I truly am the only one left.
