Rescue from Drowning

When I was four years old, I went to a summer camp in Westlake at the recreation center. We tried a lot of different things at that camp, and one of those things was swimming.

One day, at noon, I was swimming at the pool with a lot of my camp friends. I was able to touch the bottom of the pool, but what I did not know was that the pool dropped into a deep end.

I was having fun splashing around when I got to a point in the water where I started to sink. I sank deeper and deeper until suddenly my feet were no longer touching the bottom. Terrified, I realized I couldn’t breathe as my head went under the water. I looked around as I started to sink, but I didn’t see anything except the blue cubed bricks. When I tried to shout, bubbles just rose up.

Just as everything began to grow dark, somebody grabbed me and pushed my head above the water. My heart was beating so fast, and I began gulping in the fresh air. The lifeguard pulled me out of the pool and helped me to calm down.

My brother rushed over to us. “Are you OK?” he asked, looking worried.

“He’ll be fine,” the lifeguard said. “He just needs to rest and drink a lot of water.”

I will never forget how grateful I was to be rescued that day.
