Street Musicians

On the cobbled streets of Florence
A band of performers played in the light of the setting sun.
A group of cheering pedestrians surrounded the musicians.
The street musicians were oblivious to the praise.
They played their song,
Faster and louder,
Phrase by phrase.
An obvious crescendo was building up to the big finish.
Suddenly, a symphonic chord flew into the air and soared
Over the heads of the spectators in awe.
The crowd whistled and threw flowers in amazement.
But wait!
There was an escalation of shorter notes.
Quick, brisk, and very soft.
The onlookers gasped in shock and bewilderment
While the frantic bow skittered across the violin strings.
Then, there was a thunderous, ringing, piercing note!
The street musicians made their way over to the cases with little bows
While the audience clapped in approval.
A standing ovation.
