The Science Contest

I felt the rough, bumpy skin of the prehistoric triceratops dinosaur that the museum guard had given me at the museum. It was real alright. And I adored it. I already had an idea of what I was going to do for my school’s science contest. I was going to make a model volcano that really erupted (with baking soda and vinegar) and then I would mold a dinosaur at art class and then put on the triceratops skin.

The science contest was at 5:30 and afterwards they would be serving a spaghetti dinner. The winner of the contest would receive a medal and a free bag of different kind s of cookies from Angelo’s Bakery. I wanted to win really bad.

Finally, school started. I got through all of my classes. At art class, I was busy making a papier mache volcano and molding a dinosaur. Then I went home. I got my homework done speedy fast and I put the triceratops skin on the dinosaur, for the finishing touch.

Twenty-five more minutes until the contest. Then, I loaded all of my stuff into my red wagon and went back to my school.

I went into the auditorium and saw lots of people. Suddenly, I was nervous. What if there were so many kids that I couldn’t have a turn?

Suddenly my science teacher, Mrs. Wyburn, started asking people to come on the stage with their science presentations. None of them was me. Then Mrs. Wybugn said, “We have room for one more student.” I crossed my fingers, hoping it was me. “Alex Morenzo..”

That was me! I walked onto the stage with my presentation. Lots of kids wanted to feel the dinosaur skin, and I let them .

Finally, Mrs. Wyburn announced the winner. “And our winner is: Alex Morenzo!”

I whooped with joy—I was so excited! I received the medal and the bag of cookies. Then I had spaghetti, garlic bread, and one of the cookies from my bag. It was one of the best days of my life!
