New Poetry Contest: Holiday Magic

Can’t Sleep

From the skylight in my room
I gaze upon the stars
I dream I’m floating through the skies
On my way to planet Mars

I close my eyes and hug my teddy
Soon I’ll be sound asleep
But I’m too excited to relax
So I count my sheep

From the silence of my room
I hear a ho-ho-ho
Santa’s here, I want to see!
But I can’t seem to go

I know that if I see him
His magic will disappear
I can’t do that to all the
Good boys and girls this year

So I lie in my bed awaiting
Ready to see the surprise
When we’ll all run down to see
All the presents through hopeful eyes

But here I lie
Looking into the starry sky
Drifting off more and more
And the night seems to fly by
