Home Sweet Birdhouse
Mr. Jenkins, the mail carrier, pulled his mail truck beside Mr. Marge’s mailbox. But when he opened the mailbox to put a few letters in, he saw five mice staring up at him. He quickly shut the mailbox. “I guess I will have to tell Mr. Marge about it,” he said to himself. He pulled his mail truck to the side of the road, walked up to Mr. Marge’s front door, and knocked. The door opened, and Mr. Jenkins asked, “Are you Mr. Marge?”

A cheerful-looking young man said, “I am.”

Mr. Jenkins asked, “Did you know that mice have made a home in your mailbox?”

Mr. Marge looked astonished. “Why no!”

“How should we get the mice out of your mailbox?” Mr. Jenkins asked.

Mr. Marge thought. “We will have to make the mice a new home,” he replied. “And I’ve got just the thing.” He ran into his house. A few moments later he returned with a large birdhouse with the pole that goes in the ground sawed off. “This should do the trick,” he said. He walked to the side of the house and placed the birdhouse on the ground near some bushes. “I put a slice of cheese in the birdhouse so that the mice would go in it,” Mr. Marge remarked.

Mr. Jenkins asked, “How will we get the mice from the mailbox into the birdhouse?”

“I’ll be back in a moment,” Mr. Marge replied. He ran back inside his house and returned with a clear plastic container which had another slice of cheese inside it. “We’ll lure them in this container and then let them out near the birdhouse.” The two men walked to the mailbox and opened it. They put the container in front of the mice and when they all walked into the container, Mr. Marge put the lid on it. Then he walked to the bushes and released the mice near the birdhouse. The mice ran out of the container, sniffed the air for a few seconds, then ran inside the birdhouse for the cheese.
