Ransacking Koalas
“Come on, fellas,” Mr. Graypuck said to his workmen. “We gotta get to New York City with these eucalyptus leaves for the koalas at the zoo.”
The boat was going to leave in about an hour with fresh supplies of eucalyptus leaves, and Mr. Graypuck and his men had to get all the crates on the boat, otherwise they would be in big trouble with the zoo.
At the zoo, the zookeepers were worried. The koalas weren’t eating. Ever since they had run out of eucalyptus leaves, the koalas were hungry. They tried tofu leaves and other types of leaves, but the koalas spit them out. “Uh oh,” the zookeepers moaned.
The koalas were getting hungry. When they tried the other types of leaves, they sputtered with disgust. They decided that they needed to escape and get some food.
In the middle of the night when all the zookeepers were in bed, one of the koalas used her claw to pick the lock on the koala cage. All of the koalas clambered out of the zoo and spotted a candy shop on the corner of Lincoln Avenue. Another koala picked the candy shop lock, and all the koalas crowded in. They stuffed their mouths with chocolate bars, gumdrops, gumballs, peppermints, and Twizzlers. They stuffed themselves all night. All full and sleepy, the troop of animals made their way back into the their cage and went to sleep.
The next day, all the koalas had terrible stomachaches. They bugged the zookeepers to massage their tummies. When the zookeepers found out the koalas had eaten all the candy, they were very mad. Especially when the zookeepers had to pay for the wreckage.
The candy shop owner asked the zookeepers why the koalas had burst into the shop anyway. The zookeepers explained everything. The shopkeeper felt bad for the koalas and allowed them free eucalyptus-tasting gumdrops every day.
Finally Mr. Graypuck came with the eucalyptus leaves, and the zookeepers were very happy. The shopkeeper still allowed the zoo to take gumdrop treats for the koalas. The koalas were very, very happy.
