The Three Lazy Lions

Once lived a pride of eight lions in a hot savanna. All the female lions hunted for the whole pride. The three lazy male lions slept all day and almost ate all of the pride food.

Finally, the female lions couldn’t take it anymore. The female lions decided something had to be done; they made a plan. They would make a secret storage super close to their home. Then they would let the male lions find out and get very angry at them, so the male lions would make them leave. Finally, they would hunt for themselves and have enough food.

At noon, when the male lions were taking their five-hours nap, the female lions began to dig the storage. They dug quickly because they only had five hours to dig, hunt, and bring the food back. So as soon as they finished digging, they quickly ran to the watering hole where many zebras and gazelles drank. The lions took their places and waited for the animals to come.

When the herbivores were drinking, the lions pounced! The surprised preys ran in all directions. The lions caught a lot of them. They ate some and saved the rest in the storage.

When the male lions woke up, they wondered why they could smell fresh meat but could not see it. The male lions were too lazy to find out. On no, the plan didn’t work!

Now the female lions had only one choice—to leave the pride themselves. But it was tricky, because the male lions could smell them. The female lions decided to run to a river and wash away their scent. That plan did work.

When the male lions realized that the female lions had left, they decided to get them back and hunt with them. They searched for the lions but could not find them.

But suddenly, the male lions found the female lions’ track, which they followed, and final found them. They reunited. They hunted together and had enough food for all of them. The male lions learned a lesson, and never again were they lazy.
