(February 26, 2022) :NO STININ’ WAY! REALLY?!” I said excitedly. It was the weekend I heard COVID-19 was completely gone on the news!

Now that COVID. was finally gone I would be walking into school with no mask on! No more distancing, no more staying in one classroom, no more shields . . . and so on! I quickly packed my backpack and picked out my most comfortable outfit for tomorrow. I did not fall asleep right away because I was so excited.

The next day, I walked on the bus, and we did not have to sit in assigned seats for social distancing! I sat in the same seat as my friend’s sister, who’s in eighth grade. I had not sat with her in two-and-a-half years.! We talked and laughed and drew.

When we got to school, I ran to the classroom with my friend to quickly unpack and hug everyone in the room. The desks wee back to normal!

The virtual kids were back. We all acted like we hadn’t seen each other in forever. It was lunchtime, and we finally did not have to eat lunch in the classroom. The extra classrooms in the cafeteria were gone, and the tables were back. After lunch we went to the bathroom to wash our hands, and everyone went in at once. We did not have to wait in line for the bathroom anymore.

“This is the best day of my life!”

At first during recess everyone kept forgetting they did not have to stay distanced! The kindergartners were outside, too. We played a little bit with them. And like old times, when we came up the stairs, we rapidly got a quick drink when we passed the water fountain. At our lockers we just put our coats away. No more dealing with mask changes.

At the end of the day, everyone was talking and laughing and packing up. We could all go to our lockers at the same time. We shared some things. It was amazing!
