A Summer Flip

I grasp the cold metal bars and take a step
onto the rough, sandpaper-like board,
Deep breath in.
I slowly tiptoe to the edge of the board,
arms extended to the sky,
Deep breath out.
I leap, springing off the board,
Deep breath in.
I swing my arms, gathering enough momentum
to turn my body,
Deep breath out.
And flip into the turquoise waves awaiting me.
I resurface, gasping for air.
Deep breaths in and out.
