Miracle Cat

It was a cold, snowy day when Moxie, our cat, disappeared. My siblings and I were playing a game we’d just created when Mom stuck her head in. “Emily, have you seen Moxie?” she asked.

“No, I haven’t. But Julie said she saw Moxie in the living room,” I replied.

Mom went to look and came back slightly anxious. “Julie, are you sure you saw Moxie in the living room?”

“Yes, I’m sure,” Julie said.

Soon, we all were looking for Moxie, but we couldn’t find her. I went to bed very worried and woke early to look for Moxie before school. I found Mom making breakfast in the kitchen. She looked tired.

“Here, Emily. Take these bowls to the table, please.”

I ate silently and packed my schoolbag. On the walk to school, my friend Jane asked me what was wrong. I told her everything.

When I got home, I immediately started looking for Moxie. After I had searched the house at least six times over, I sat for dinner.

“Emily, could you shovel the snow outside after dinner?” Mom asked.

“Sure,” I said. When I had finished my meal, I took the big metal shovel and began to shovel the snow off, and that was when the shovel hit something. Kneeling, I brushed away some snow. And there, nestled in the snow, was Moxie! I picked her up and raced to the door.

“Mom, Mom! I found Moxie!” I yelled at the top of my voice.

Mom rushed to the door and opened it. “Moxie! We have to get her to the vet,” Mom said.

Soon, we were at the vet’s. The vet looked at Moxie, doing all sorts of tests on her. “I’m afraid she’s gone,” the vet said after a while.

But I was too busy looking at Moxie. “She moved!” I yelled. We watched in amazement as slowly, one by one, Moxie’s eyes slid open.
