A Personality Sandwich
    
I’m Harper and I’m a detective. But I’m no ordinary detective. I don’t wait around for something awful to happen. I go looking for mysteries! Lately I’ve been looking at people’s lunches, wondering if I can uncover their personality by seeing what they eat for lunch.
    
The one I’m stuck on is Alana.
    
Every day Alana brings a mayonnaise sandwich, ONLY mayonnaise and bread! Mayonnaise! She also brings chips, candy bar(s), gummies, and sometimes an apple that she stuffs in her mouth whole!
    
I’m still trying to figure out Alana’s personality. You’d think she’d be strange, or weird, but the thing is, that’s not true. She’s the most popular kid in the grade! She’s completely . . . well, perfect. She may eat weird food, but that doesn’t determine her personality.
    
I’m sitting at lunch, thinking about Alana, when a girl walks up to me.
    
“Hello,” she says. “I’m new and I know this sounds weird, but I heard you’re the class—or school—detective? So, um, I did that kind of thing at my old school and I was wondering, are there any cases for me to solve or help solve like, detective-wise?”
    
“Well . . . ,” I start, smiling.
    
Later that day, I informed the girl, Daisy, about my case.

She smiles. “I know how to solve your case,” she said.

“Are you sure about this?” I ask unsurely.

“Of course! The only way to solve a case is to get to know the suspect—or whatever she is in this type of case.”

She got me thinking. I mean, doing this to a normal girl, oh, that’s fine, but to the most popular girl, well that’ll take some skill.

“Um, hi?” I say to Alana. “I’m Harper.”

“Hi, Harper! Wha—hey, sit down!! she says, very friendly, actually!

After we talked for the whole lunch, getting to know each other, I solved my case! Daisy was right! I just needed to know my—well, whatever she is!
