Missing Cupcake Detective

Clank, clank!

Brooklyn heard construction workers hammering on the pool house being built outside of her family’s beautiful farmhouse. Brooklyn is almost ten and in her free time she loves to bake. She has just perfected a chocolate cupcake with raspberry filling, when all the workers come into the kitchen for lunch.

 Brooklyn had gone upstairs to change out of her teal chef apron and get the frosting out of her long red hair. When she came into the kitchen, it was a catastrophe! Her perfect cupcake was gone from the plate and nowhere to be found!

Brooklyn grabbed her magnifying glass and looked for clues around the table where the missing cupcake was. First, Brooklyn found a hammer left near the empty plate. She also found big footprints and sawdust. Then, Brooklyn saw her brother dashing by, and he had a ring of chocolate around this mouth. Brooklyn marched right over to him and asked her brother Carson if he ate anything chocolate.

“He said, “Yes. Mommy gave me a gooey brownie.”

Well, I guess he is not the thief. Then Brooklyn put on her boots and walked outside. All of a sudden, Harley, Brooklyn’s dog, ate something outside. Brooklyn examined what Harley was eating when he spit something out. It was a piece of a carrot! Silly Harley!

When she walked past Harley, she saw one of the workers was covered in sawdust, his hammer was missing from his tool belt, and he had big feet! All the clues pointed to him! It must be him.

Brooklyn walked over to the construction guy and asked him if he left his hammer inside the house, and he said yes!

“Did you eat a cupcake?” Brooklyn asked.

“In fact, I did!”  said the worker. He apologized and thought it was for him!

Brooklyn said that it was OK! “I guess now I know who ate my perfect cupcake,” said Brooklyn. “Case solved!”

They both laughed! Afterward, Brooklyn made a whole batch of cupcakes for all the other workers!
