New Poetry Contest: Summer Night

Submitted by: Sumaya B., age 11, Knoxville, TN

Those Summer Nights

Flames flicker,
The white light pulling me in deep.
Stories told round a fire,
Those memories that I can keep.

Summer nights make me alive,
Make these old bones want to dance.
For although those summer nights are gone,
They keep me in their trance.

Even when the sun went down,
I couldn’t stay in bed.
Adventure always called to me,
Stories inside my head.

I know those summer nights are gone,
But to me they’re always there.
A campfire at midnight,
Or moonlight on my hair.

The stories that I told then,
Still burn quite as bright.
The memories never disappeared
Of those peaceful summer nights.
