New Poetry Contest: Summer Night

Lost at Sea

The boat sways beneath me,
as I lie there
I look up,
a clear, cloudless sky
hangs above
I ponder the mysteries of this midsummer night
As the waves reflect the stars
Weaving the light to mask their own beauty
All their secrets now lie in the waves
Once out of reach
Now, they glisten beside me
Their power is compulsive, irresistible
My hand reaches out,
sending a ripple through a faraway galaxy.
My sails are torn,
so I let the stars guide me
When I am home
When I can feel the sand in my toes
When the clouds have returned to conceal the stars
to obscure their light
When the waves grow dark again
I yearn to be lost once more
in the sea of stars
