New Poetry Contest: Summer Night

Submitted by: Karina L., age 11, Newtown, CT

A Late Summer Night

The sun disappears into blackness
The world drops into the dark
The stars sit together in the sky,
Their lights nothing compared to the night.

The moon reveals herself among clouds,
Her lonely glory glimmers down
Bathing the land with silver
A lightbulb in the dark.

A warm wind rustles the leaves
The fireflies blink then vanish
The dark sky gleams shades of indigo
As the frogs hop out in search of food.

The crickets chirp in the grass
The moon strolls sadly past
Her lonely face shines bright
In the late summer night.
